For many drivers in Far North Queensland, a Cape York trip is the ultimate adventure. The corrugated tracks, remote creek crossings and long stretches between fuel stops make it one of the most demanding drives in Australia. But before you load up the 4WD and head north, getting your vehicle into the best possible mechanical shape is one of the most important steps you can take.

Engine and Fluid Systems
Fresh engine oil and a clean oil filter are the starting point for any long trip. Differential oil should be checked and changed if due — particularly if the vehicle has been through creek crossings previously, as water contamination is a known risk.
How Often Should You Service a 4WD?
For 4WDs used off-road, we recommend servicing at least every 15,000 km. If your vehicle is approaching a service interval and a Cape York trip is coming up, it makes sense to bring the service forward rather than complete the trip on old fluids and worn filters.
